For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Rogue are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Chevrolet Equinox doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Nissan Rogue has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Equinox doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Rogue Platinum has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Equinox doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Rogue Rock Creek’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Equinox doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Rogue’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Equinox doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Rogue and the Equinox have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The Rogue’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Equinox’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Nissan pays for scheduled maintenance on the Rogue for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Nissan will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 3 visits). Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Equinox.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Rogue has a standard 150-amp alternator. The Equinox’s 130-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Rogue third among compact suvs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The Equinox isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked fifth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 4 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The Rogue’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder produces 26 more horsepower (201 vs. 175) and 41 lbs.-ft. more torque (225 vs. 184) than the Equinox FWD’s standard 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The Rogue’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder produces 26 more horsepower (201 vs. 175) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (225 vs. 203) than the Equinox AWD’s standard 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

The Rogue’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Equinox are solid, not vented.

The Rogue has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Rogue flat and controlled during cornering. The Equinox’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The Rogue has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Equinox doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The Rogue Platinum handles at .84 G’s, while the Equinox RS AWD pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Rogue Platinum executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Equinox RS AWD (27.7 seconds @ .6 average G’s vs. 28.6 seconds @ .56 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Rogue’s turning circle is 1.7 feet tighter than the Equinox’s (35.4 feet vs. 37.1 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Rogue has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Equinox LT/ACTIV (8.2 vs. 8.1 inches), allowing the Rogue to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Rogue has 1.1 inches more front headroom, .6 inches more front legroom, 1.7 inches more rear hip room and .1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Equinox.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Rogue’s rear seats recline. The Equinox’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Rogue has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Equinox with its rear seat up (36.5 vs. 29.8 cubic feet). The Rogue has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Equinox with its rear seat folded (74.1 vs. 63.5 cubic feet).

A control in the cargo area automatically lowers the Rogue Platinum’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Equinox doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The Rogue’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Equinox’s (1500 vs. 800 pounds).

The Rogue Platinum offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Equinox doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Rogue’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Equinox’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Rogue to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Equinox doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Rogue’s optional rear view mirror has an automatic dimming feature. This mirror can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on it, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Equinox doesn’t offer the luxury of an automatic dimming rear view mirror.
